Committee Roles

President

As president, you are the elected leader of the Society; you will have the most influence and responsibility of all the committee members. As the face of the Society, you must act as a role model and uphold its values. You must set out your vision at the AGM and deliver on your promises. Your primary duties will be managing the committee, providing support where necessary, and leveraging relationships to achieve the Society's objectives.

One of the essential responsibilities of this role is to ensure the Society's long-term success. You will prepare the following committee by facilitating a transfer of knowledge and handing down an organised and thriving organisation ready for new challenges.

Vice President

This role supports the President directly and all other positions across the committee. The VP should have excellent communication skills and the ability to execute plans in a timely and organised manner. In this role, you will develop a broad range of managerial skills and a deep understanding of the Society and its capabilities. As VP, you will also significantly influence the Society's plans and will be instrumental in its successes and failures.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is in charge of managing the Society's finances. The Treasurer should be a disciplined and principled individual with a long-term perspective. They will work closely with other committee members to ensure the Society has the funds to carry out its plans. The Treasurer may also work closely with the committee to bring new funds to the Society through special events or initiatives; this role will develop a significant understanding of the mechanics behind any society and allow you to test your entrepreneurial flair.

Events Coordinator

This individual is in charge of organising the Society’s events and socials to a high standard. It is the perfect role for an organised individual who is collaborative, approachable and outgoing. You will work closely with the committee to plan and execute the best events for the largest Society on campus and will ensure their continued success. You will also be in charge of maintaining a good sense of well-being and inclusion amongst our members.

Marketing Manager

This role is perfect for anybody who knows how to be seen. You will create assets and share marketing materials for the Society to showcase what it is all about. As part of this role, you will be a photographer, blogger and influencer, designing leaflets, flyers and handouts. You will be a regular physical presence and engage our community through our various social media profiles by liking, sharing and reposting ours and other procured content from around the web.

Outreach Officer

This highly outbound role is vital in ensuring our events attract high-quality speakers and sponsors. It will suit a people person with excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. You will be on email, phone and face-to-face with any external individuals or organisations that want to work with us and will work closely with the committee to create worthwhile incentives. You will also be responsible for maintaining relationships with existing partners and developing original ideas for either society or charity fundraising events.

Postgraduate Officer

Our newest committee role centred around managing engagement and opportunities for our post-graduate members. You will work collaboratively alongside all committee members to enhance the experience of Masters and PhD students.

EFS Advisory Board

The continuity of any society is crucially important. Here at Surrey EFS, our Advisory Board ensures this continuity through supporting the current committee and being a trusted source of advice. The board plays a particularly useful role at the beginning of each committee’s tenure to ensure the society is fully prepared to hit the ground running from day one (freshers week!).

Throughout the year, the advisory board is here to answer questions, offer suggestions and provide advice on running the society and special events (e.g. formal diners) - which benefits highly from the experience of past committee members. The Advisory Board consists of a group of carefully selected ex-committee members who have demonstrated strong involvement and dedication to the committee throughout their tenure. The member’s position on the board lasts for 2 years.
